Dogs are said to be lactose intolerant but more importantly cows milk has no benefits for them (apart from giving puppies diarrohea), regular feeding could give some health issues however, the accidental mopping up of a cereal bowl for example is one of those things that can happen...

The easy answer is don't intentially feed cows milk but don't panic if they do find some.. (just hope that it doesn't go straight through!)

I don't think it can kill them :-\

I'd read on here that you shouldn't give a pup milk, but my nana is insistant on Ruby having a small bowl when she goes to her house.  ::) She says her dogs used to have it all the time  :o

To be honest, it hasn't affected Ruby too much, but i still want her to stop having it.

If your pup can tolerate milk, then it's fine to give them some although goat's milk is generally better accepted by dogs than cow's milk. Puppies don't actually need milk once they are weaned from Mum but it won't actually kill them - it will just give them a tummy upset if they can't tolerate it.

Both of mine loved goat milk when they were wee. Actually, they would still love it now, if I gave it to them....but the brutes are fat enough without that!

My cats like goat milk too.

i'm a little confused too, my breeder also warned me against giving the dog milk as apparently it can cause skin problems? anyway does this apply to all dairy products? we sometimes mix a little natural yoghurt with banana and freeze it in cassies kong and a few times she's licked inside an eaten normal fruit yoghurt? is this harmful also?

I wonder if her line of dogs has a history of milk intolerance?

I don't see any good reason to give milk to dogs, but I do give Buddy hard cheese, cottage cheese and natural yogurt occasionally with no ill-effect.

I read into the whole cows milk debate last year, and do you know were the only species that drinks the milk of another species after weaning! I think cows milk is bad full stop and the treatment of cows to retrieve it is also bad.  But thats a whole different story!  ;)

Iv never given any of my animals cows milk and i try not to give my son much milk too.  :D

Although I wouldn't make a point of deliberately giving our dogs cow's milk on a regular basis my mother always likes to give them weak tea & biscuits when we go over there; ::) all the dogs have had them including our house-guest Rooney & none have ever suffered any ill effects!!!   :005:
