Monty, our beloved cocker spaniel of 14 1/2 years, left us yesterday. He had been poorly for a while and was on regular steroid treatment which did make him a bit better, but yesterday morning we knew he had had enough. I managed to get to my parents house where he lives in time to spend a couple of hours with him, but he was hardly concious. The vet arrived at 2:30 and put him to sleep.
I've barely stopped crying, and can't quite believe he has gone. He was our soulmate, a true gentleman of a dog and so wise. Whenever any of us was feeling down, he would ask to jump up on your lap and cuddle all of the pain away.
Run free dear Monty. Enjoy yourself in your new home. I'll never forget your zest for life and your devotion to bread and dentasticks. Remember that we will all always love you, and that you have been the best thing that has ever happened to us.
Sleep tight Mont xxx
