Has Alfie had an MRI scan to see if they can see anything in his joints that might be causing him to limp?

How worrying for you :-\. I hope the vet can get to the bottom of what's wrong soon.  Big hugs to your gorgeous boy :luv:

To keep the number of generals down ask for a referral now and go for the MRI scan straight away!

Jessie had a sedation, then a general at our normal vets and both sets of x-rays were inconclusive and led us to treat incorrectly for a while - wasn't until we had the referral and another general for more x-rays and the MRI scan that we got close - she also then had another general the next day so they could do a bone biopsy and joint tap.....

She is only 5 and i bet through her life she has had 12 to 15 generals for one thing or another - she's still as mad as a hatter tho.....

If the general allows them to diagnose Alfie properly then surely its worth the risk?

Yes it would be if like you say diagnosis was made straight away. My experience with my last boy Louis has left me feeling sick at the thought of repeated anaesthetics though  :'( Its difficult isnt it when you have had a bad experience previously.  :-\ If the vet suggests xrays I will mention my concerns and the possibilty of an MRI, thanks  :luv: On a positive note he has just stolen a paintbrush and ran off with it, so he must be feeling a bit better  :005:

Pleased to hear Alfie's feeling a bit better, I hope you can get to the bottom of this very soon.

Re the Metacam, my girl Neneh had a bad reaction (lethargy, loss of appetite etc.) when she was given it some years back after an emergency caesarean & spay. As soon as I took her off it she perked up.
