Ella's eye op
« on: June 11, 2009, 08:45:28 AM »
Well she's back. I dropped her off at AHT Newmarket on Monday, she had the op on Tuesday and she was allowed home yesterday afternoon. The vet who was treating her said that she was doing so well there was no need to keep her ion any longer. She is on a fairly comprehensive drug regime for the next week, but it's no chore to administer. The only problem is trying to stop her cocker bounce! Have you ever tried?
The eye looks crystal clear as the cataract has been removed. The artificial lens is in place but only held by a very thin thread initially, hence the no bounce rule ::)
If anyone has any doubts about the op for juvenile cataracts then please feel free to pm me.
out of interest the vet said that she did not think that this was a hereditary problem with Ella. This was due to the position of the cataract and the type. Bit over my head but she thought it was down to trauma ( none that I can remember, Archie the cat was deleted as a suspect!) or stress. We asked about the possibility of stress caused by the loss of Fleur ( which to be honest I thought was daft) and as they were big buds the vet would not rule this out.
Anyway so far so good. Ella has to go back in a week for a checkup and fingers crossed that will be that.

That's great. I feel for you re all the meds but they will be reduced soon. When Jerry had the op they could not place an artificial lense (so he's far sighted now ...but can still catch a tennis ball out of the air...mostly  :shades:), also his cataracts were hereditary so he developed them in both eyes. For Ella things seem to look really good  :D

Thanks, she is a model patient, takes her tablets, sits for her eye drops but wont stop bouncing >:( I think that she is one of those that heals quickly so she has that on her side.
