my 12 yr old is spayed we had her done when we got her she was about 2yrs old and my 3 yr old girl is spayed i think her previous owners got her done at about a year old , i would always get my girls done as if they did get caught you have then got to take responsability for what happens next, of course i always worry about the op itself, as with any op there are risks, but then i worry when they go in for a wash and haircut  ph34r

Just to add that we had Poppy spayed (on the advice of the Vet) at 6 months.  She recovered very quickly, thankfully no bladder problems, and no change to the coat either so all in all a very positive experience for us.

Jessie was spayed after her first season at about 13months.  Approx. a year after her spay she started to leak when she was resting her urine was checked she did have an urine infection. That cleared up but was still leaking. Vet did further tests of her bladder did not find anything.

We manage the problem by letting her out to wee frequently, sometimes when she starts to leak she begins to clean herself so I know its time to take her outside . By just watching her and knowing the signs we have managed to reduce the accidents.  In spite of this I would still have a bitch spayed
