Talking of grass seeds...........
« on: June 30, 2009, 10:26:29 PM »
Does anyone use the snood thingys on their dogs?
First time I saw one I admit I thought it looked funny - like some weird showercap/bandage contraption!  Took a while for me to realise what it was. :005: :005:

It was being sported by a black & white show cocker, and I did try to make eye contact with the woman walking him so I could enquire about it, but she was on a mission - either that or the sight of my scruffy Milly approaching at mac 10 put her off!  :005:

Anyway, have since looked them up on here, & wondered if they really worked? How do you stop the dog from pulling it straight off - which I'm sure Milly would do. Does anyone with workers use them or are they really for show cockers?
I did find something similar on a web shopping site, but it was more of a shower cap than anything else (waterproof thingy)
Just being inquisitive.

If you exercise your dog where there are a lot of grass seeds they can be a real life saver, I know some people are embarrassed thinking their dog looks silly but I'd rather have that than the distress caused to the dog and not to mention the vet's bill too. ;) :shades:

Mine wear them and they've never tried to pull them off.

Thanks Michelle, I'll have a look.
Think I would put up with it if, as you say, it could prevent a lot of anquish.

I have snoods for bramble and poppy.....don't make them wear them anymore coz they really do look stupid in them and, as Helen can testify, seeds can appear anywhere, not just their ears.

I did find (what i thought was) a brilliant new use for the old snoods. The girls had just been to the groomer and were due to have a lamb shank for their tea. I hate the smell of raw meat off their ears, so I decided to put the snoods on them while they ate their shank. I was all smug with myself until I looked out of the window to see Poppy wandering blindly around the garden with the snood down over her eyes. That was the end of that good idea  :005: ph34r

I have a snood for Molo, and used it successfully a few summers ago - but he didn't really like it and eventually learnt how to shake it off, so it's not a lot of use now  ::)

Don't forget to check their armpits as well as their toes, eyes and ears

Mine all wear them and I only have a little trouble from Sebastian the eldest trying to pull his off but he is getting the message now that it has to stay on when on walks ... the rest of my Boys are quite happy running around with their snoods on - I'd sooner them have a few strange looks than run the risk of getting a grass seed in their ears ....

They also get in between their toes checked and armpits for grass seeds.

I use them for walking when its grass seed time and when Ulyss is eating bones. We got over the embarressment bit by making the snood the same colour as the dog, less likely to draw attention to others if its not bright pink/purple and frilly!! I made her a plain black one with instructions from the "How to make" site, I think it works really well, I can't stand the smell of bones lingering either. The site explains how much material and elastic to use etc, it was really easy.

depends on your dog really - I would have to secure one so tightly there would be no blood flow so he wouldn't get it off in cover, and it would just be a manky soggy mess every day  :-\

I don't put doggles on to protect his eyes, and he doesn't wear booties to stop them getting between his paws either which is where I mostly find grass seeds - I am just as vigilant as I can be  :-\

and he really is a dog 'most likely too...'  as he tears through long grasses coming back covered in seeds so I spend each summer just waiting....and touching a LOT of wood...
