kibble with wet food
« on: July 20, 2009, 01:20:49 PM »
Oscar (12 weeks old now) came to me on Royal Canin mixed with wet pouch food. At the moment he is having pedigree puppy pouches as that is all I can get locally. Do dogs need the wet food? Can I transition him to just having the RC alone? What is the best for his health?

What does your dog eat in one day?
Enjoying this journey !!

I'd get rid of the Pedigree stuff ;). Dogs do perfectly fine with just dry food as far I am aware, but even if this wasn't the case I still wouldn't feed Brodie Pedigree ph34r :P

ETA have you tried him with raw chicken wings? Brodie gets two a couple of times a week and loves them :D

Hiya,

I've always fed my dogs soley dry JWB, however Penny (13yr Old Lab x) went through a spell of being sick after meals so I got her some wet food in. Since shes been having half and half (JWB Kibble and JWB Pouches) she seems really bright eyed and bushy tailed - touch wood very healthy! So shes staying on that for now. The others are still on JWB dry, though I'd like them all to be on the 50/50 but those pouches are just sooooo expensive that for four would be a fortune!!

Hiya,
Mine have Burns complete Fish and Maize with a bit of Butchers tripe tinned meat added to it. They wont eat dry kibble for breakfast so it has to have a bit of moist food mixed in or meat juices with water or milk. They will eat it dry for supper though - fussy pups!!! 1x 400g tin lasts 4 meals. They thrive on this and are happy and healthy.

Cocker Spaniels are like chocolates you can never have just one!

My vet was really rude about the pedigree pouches, I saw the comment on the computer screen, but I was getting desperate as Rufus would wolf them down and wouldn't eat any of the expensive puppy kibble stuff which all went to the local rescue. I then was told about nature diet and he had this in small quantities. I could then make the change gradually to a good quality puppy kibble. He wouldn't eat it wet. I wouldn't worry as long as you use a quality product. The vet said Pedigree had too much sugar, and pupsters liked it just as kids like sweet things. I feed kibble at breakfast and Nature diet for tea.

I might try some Naturediet with his dried then- eventually want to go with kibble one meal, raw another.
