I was tempted to switch from Petplan to Healthy Pets or AN Other insurer but as Fern's had a few trips to the vets for minor things I didn't think it was worth the risk changing as ongoing conditions are not covered, even though I would argue they are not ongoing I know they would do there best to prove they were related.  If I were starting from scratch then I would seriously consider a different insurer.  Our vets firmly advocate PetPlan they say they far outweigh any other, but I think they must have some sort of agreement with them, not sure  :-\  We pay £26.66 per month  :o

I have both my boys with Healthy Pets, £18.00 a month approximately for Gold Insurance, would recommend them, they are great, very helpful and swift payout always.  The only other animal insurance company I have dealt with are NFU, which are a bit slow but very helpful and friendly, sorry can't comment on Pet Plan.

I had Fern insured with Healthy Pets Gold option and they paid out without any quibbling, with the exception of dentistry as you say. She had an abcess under the tooth and the tooth had to be removed. They wouldn't pay for that.
The £5,000 is per condition over the pets lifetime. So is your dog has several different conditions, then each one starts at zero£ up to £5,000 maximum, with no limit on the number of conditions. Fern had a few grass seeds removed under GA, but each grass seed was treated as different condition, as it was caused by a different grass seed. It never would have reached £5,000 anyway.

Her last few days cost over £2,500, but she'd never had any pancreatic condition before, so the money clock was set to zero when I took her in. They have paid the vet direct without any problems.

Bella is now insured with them. As she has only just turned 5, her premiums are about half that I was paying for Fern, who was 10.

My previous dog was insured with Tesco, who have a time limit of one year for any condition. When she developed arthritis I had to pay for all her treatment related to arthritis after the first twnelve months. I would never insure a dog again with a time limit on a condition.

Pet insurance has gone up in price across the board over the last couple of years, mainly because of the increase in vets fees as I understand it. Healthy Pets  put up their prices a lot in October last year. I queried why and was told that they had changed their underwriters.  I only began Bellas insurance last week, but still think they offer the best deal for me.

Pleased I found this thread.  Have been looking at other quotes, and despite having worked in insurance (farm and livestock) a few years ago it still totally befuddled me!  Willows has recently gone up from 11.99 to 14.99 and Teals from 14.99 to 20.99 a month - no claims (touch wood).  It'll soon get that I'll have to self insure (shove the same amount in the bank each month and hope for the best) as it's getting ridiculous.  I understand why, but even so!

Guess, I'll stay with More Than then.
