mucus around poo

Inca's just turned 4 months and her poos have a bit of mucus/sticky stuff surrounding them, it's not a massive amount but enough to notice. She's absolutley fine in herself and most of her poo since we brought her home have been like this. She was wormed on Monday, (she has been every month sice she came home at 10 weeks and was wormed every 2 weeks with her breeder) and her poo is VERY solid. any ideas what it could be? or should we tackle the massive hill to the vets~? Thanks in advance. x x x x
Forgot to say that she is on Pro Plan Puppy food, and has the odd rawhide to chew on, and raw carrots to help with her teeth bless her. x

Could you ring your vet for advice? If she's fine in herself it is probably nothing but the vet is the best one to advise. When Freddie had runny poo after we first got him I rang the vet cos it was close to Christmas and got good advice that backed up what COL'ers had said.

Mucus around poo is usually colitis which has many causes from IBS, parasite/bacteria infection to food intolerance. Its pretty common but if its affecting him for more than a few days I'd pop him along to the vet.

It is often a sign of colitis, Harv has a very sensitive tum which is fine when he sticks to normal diet but can be triggered very quickly when he has had different treats/food or drugs... the wormer may have caused it or if Inca doesn't always have rawhide or carrots it could be this causing a little upset as well

Harv normally comes right quickly and once it is passed it doesn't continue, if it continues you may want to get Inca vet checked.

I first noticed this with Rufus after rawhide, or other treats which disagree with him. It clears up after one or two poos. It is alarming, but quite manageable. I have not needed to consult a vet but would seek advice if it does not sto when he is being fed only his usual food..

Personally I would not use the raw hide we have had this before just went away on its own thankfully  :blink:

Thanks all, I'll see what she's like when I stop her rawhide. She doens't like her kong or other chew toys I have given her, fussy madam!!!!! x x x

My puppy is 11 weeks old and has also had mucus around poo the last week. I noticed it a couple of days after his first spot- on treatment of advocate. Otherwise he is very well. All these replies have been very helpful.

I would keep an eye on it, Baja was the same and it turned out to be Giardia. It's been 6 months pretty much since he was diagnosed and been left with many a problem since. Currently on a perscription diet and due back for blood tests in a week.

If she goes more frequently or with an urgency I would get it checked out for sure.

looks like it was straight after the worming?  I'd leave it a couple of days before worrying too much about it  ;)

yeah she's fine today and no more mucus.  :lol2: Can't believe I worry so much about her, bless her cottons. Bougt hera selection of chew toys ranging from Nylabones to rope toys, nylabones were hidden with disgust, but the rope toys have been adopted into the bed so hopefully they'll keep her occupied for now! x x x
