This does get to me lots. We have a bloke across the road from us and his springer is always off lead and always wondering across the road where sadly my old dog got out of my gate unexpectedly and got run over. Just sods law as i always have had every dog i have ever owned on a lead.

Makes me so cross.

This is one of my pet hates and really makes me cross.  I just feel it is irresponsible - dogs no matter how well trained can surely never be 100% predictable.  What happens if a cat or something irresistible were to suddenly appear and dash to the other side of the road?  Not only is the dog itself in danger, but what about any accident/injuries caused to motorists etc should the dog cause an accident?  And what about other pedestrians and dogs who are wary of or may have issues with dogs - not fair to them either.  Grrrrr! >:(

what is the fasination about walking your dog off-lead on the public highway - do people think it makes them look good because their dog is sooooo well trained?

I would never trust a dog off-lead near in these circumstances, you never know what they may suddenly do.

I couldn't agree more, even the best trained dogs can have an off day or be distracted by something.
I think it really is irresponsible of this man and others like him, it's not just the dog's life at stake but human life too.
