Darcey has swallowed a nectarine stone
« on: February 09, 2010, 08:54:25 AM »
Libby was eating a nectarine for breakfast and dropped the stone, Darcey was out of her basket and on it before I could blink. She usually just sniffs and licks fruit but I shouted "leave it" which I think made her think it was something super exciting because it didn't even touch the sides  >:D

I called the vet who said all I can do is keep an eye on her, poo watch and if she shows signs of an obstruction get her seen asap. I am out this morning and tomorrow morning and so worried I'll come home to a poorly dog, but i know that if I cancel my plans and stay in she'll be as right as rain.

aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh. Blooming greedy dog that I have.

Any storied of dogs successfully and uneventfully passing fruit stones would be much appreciated....

Ah, thanks for that Helen. I called the vet as soon as it happened and they said they would prefer not to make her vomit as it could easily get stuck or damage her on the way back up, better just to let nature take its course. She's off to the vet this afternoon anyway to have some stitches out of her ear (that's another story!  ::) ) so I will ask them to check her over.

She's just done a normal poo and is fine and dandy at the mo so fingers crossed that continues.

the worry they give us!

Maggie once ate a whole packet of sesame seeds and was pooing bricks for a couple of days!  Poor thing.  :005:

here you go  ;)  Elaine is an expert  :lol2:

You beat me to it Helen :lol2:

Han, hopefully she will be absolutely fine, just as William was. I was on poo watch for ages, but never saw the wretched stone. I sometimes wonder if he quietly sicked it up out in the garden when nobody was looking during the first few hours after he ate it!

Sorry to hear about Darcey, fingers crossed that everything is fine

Give her a likkle squish from me, seems ages since I saw her  :luv:

Was thinking of you yesterday. We had a walk round Rother Valley and it was very very muddy.  I had mud all the way up to my knees and we had to throw convince Maddie to go in the water before we got back in the car.

Thanks everyone  :D

Well I took her to the vet for her stitches and it was one of the senior partners. He said the stone must still be in her stomach and under her ribs as he couldn't feel it, and just to watch her carefully for vomiting. He reckons there's about a 25% chance of it causing an obstruction.

Anyway she is still fine and dandy and still highchair surfing  ::) so we will watch and wait.

Lisa -  it has been ages! We need a rother valley meet soon. Darcey is a very grown up girl now and Lib is rapidly catching her up!

Still on poo watch, still no stone. And she is as right as rain so who knows. Just going to keep an eye on her for a few more days.

Still highchair surfing of course....  >:D  :luv: :lol2:

Disney has done this more than once - the first I've known about it is when he is throwing it back up on my bed in the middle of the night  :lol2:

Hopefully it won't cause Darcey any problems  :luv:
