« on: February 18, 2010, 07:03:03 PM »
Trying to get Grace dry is so difficult as she hates the hair dryer  >:D  She is a 22 week old show type cocker  :luv: In to anything and everything   :lol2:  i am looking to get a better dryer which may be quieter as i us my wife's at the moment which is noisy  :005: may even think about a cage dryer  any one have any experience of one. Or any recommendations on normal dryers. Or anythig else i can do.  Thank you.

Penny didnt like the drier so I just switched on for a liitle time daily to get her
used to the noise and then dried her for a little time
and then  rewarded her and  gradually drying her for longer she is fine now ,hope this might help.

Dave hated it but my Weim Normy actually taught him to accept it  :lol2: :luv: She loves the heat and even though with such a short coat she doesn't need drying, she always tries to muscle in on the heat :005:. I ended up with a situation one day where I was wrestling a reluctant Dave and she ended up pining him against the wall in her attempt to get in front of the dryer and he wasn't scared all of a sudden because she was there ::) Ever since that day he's been fine...  do you have an opportunity to try something similar to help her learn that it's not scary?

I only have the one dog but may be i could ask the wife to pretend to like the hair dryer and wrestle Grace  :005:  :005:

I started with just a couple of seconds and built to minutes just kept rewarding with little treats. Now I dry 4 and they are fighting to get to the dryer  :005: :luv:

:005: I'm sure Grace loves your wife lots, but I think it may have to be another canine that she likes and trusts for it to be effective :005:

Can you distract her with some food to help her associate it with good things? Agree that short sessions will help too ;)

The first couple of times we dried Millie, OH fed her tiny treats while I dried her. She's so treat orientated, that she forgot she was being dried, and now wags her tail and jumps up and down excitedly when we get the drier out!!  :luv:
