Holly is 9 months & she gets one when Im cooking as she pesters me jumping up etc when Im cutting veg etc....so I throw her a wee carrot...she trotts off to her bed for a munch & leaves me alone 
Jay does this as well, he knows what's coming as soon as I get the chopping board out
Both dogs sit there staring at me until they get some, so they get half each, but it doesn't take Jay long before he's sitting staring again!
Don't have problems with carrot and poo but it does come out whole if it's sweetcorn
