Crate Size
« on: April 04, 2010, 08:14:04 PM »
I'm due to pick up a new puppy in a couple of weeks.  What is the recommended size for a crate and is there a manufacturer/model anyone can recommend.

Thanks.

For a fully grown Cocker you will need a 30 inch or 36 inch crate.  I would buy the biggest you have room for rather than buying a small one now and having to change it in a few months time.  Savic are a good brand but you will also find what you need on eBay for quite a lot less money.  You could consider a crate divider and half the space your pup has until it has grown a bit.

I buy my crates from

http://www.doghealth.co.uk/dh.htm

in my opinion probably some of the best crates you can buy currently, good quality reasonably priced and what I especially like is they have 3 doors to the crate which means if you are changing the site of the crate ie  car from home or different places you can still position the crate in the best possible fit and the doors open the right way ,  one of the doors even folds onto the top/roof of the crate so does not compromise any space at all,  this company also supply a divider especially useful for new puppies whom only need a smaller crate initially ( for the toilet training ) and you can then enlarge it as puppy grows and needs more space

http://www.croftonline.co.uk/  this company are also very good,  especially the crufts/freedom play pens ;)

Hi, I got my crate from Petplanet.co.uk.  They were on special at the time but I think they will be cheaper than other websites if they've got one you are interested in.  I bought a divider too from them at £5.99 which is brill for halving crate when pup is young and moving it as they grow.   ;)
Both taken away from us far too soon. x  RIP Angels Odie & Archie, causing mayhem at the Rainbow, no doubt!
