Problems attaching a scanned document to an Email
« on: June 10, 2010, 05:00:20 PM »
I'm having problems attaching a scanned document onto an email, my HP scanner saves into a folder as .tif format, then I 'attach document' in hotmail and it usually just loads up. Recentlyt it's taking ages  >:D or gives an error message  >:D >:D >:D

Should I be changing the format from .tif to something else first??

Tif files tend to be very big so if Hotmail has a limit on the size of attachments, that could be the problem. If it's an image file, it's best to save as a JPEG to get a smaller file size or perhaps convert to PDf file if it's a mainly text document (there are a few free programs which can do this for you like this one HERE)

You should be able to tweak the scanner software so that you can save the docs as something other than a tiff, such as for example a jpeg. This will eliminate the need to convert it retrospectively.

Unless you are using ocr (optical character recognition) software you will gain little by using a tiff over a jpeg.
