Puppy Insurance
« on: July 29, 2010, 10:14:58 PM »
Hi,

Unfortunately my gorgeous boy has been taken ill today and is currently at the vets  :'( we are not sure what the matter with him is or for how long they are keeping him in for. At present he is receiving fluids, and will have blood tests & xrays done. This is estimated at nearly £800. Currently we have 4 weeks free pet insurance with Pet Plan which is due to expire on Saturday and are now unsure as to whether to carry on take lifetime pet insurance at £35 a month or go for a policy with More Than for £20 which does not cover life & will not cover any illness in the next 14 days.

Does anyone have any insurance for their puppies / dogs, if so what kind of policy & Company

Thanks, Lisa

Oh, I'm really sorry to hear your pup is poorly. Sending him loads of love. I hope they sort it quickly. I can't really advise on the insurance and which you should go for but someone else might have some ideas. The only thing I can suggest is to call Pet Plan and find out if all treatment regarding this period of illness will be covred regardless of the date it happens, as the illness started when he was coverd.

The only other thing I can think of is stay with PetPlan for a month or two then switch.

Hope he feels better soon.

I suggest staying with PetPlan otherwise with a new company any preexisting conditions won't be covered.

I agree with pinkcarys, check out cover with Petplan, but it would be worth £35/mth for a few months against £800.
I also think (although not an expert of course) that any new insurance company will also exclude the current illness anyway.
Hope he's better very soon  :luv:

Aldo agree with staying with pet plan until you know what the problem is as a new policy wont cover existing problems. And in future get the best cover you can afford and inc life time.

Our puppy rupert is 8 months and has been in and out the vets the whole time we have had him! the insurance has been a lifesaver. We are with AXA for just under £30 a month (in london so more than other parts of the country). they have been really good at paying out promptly.

Just search for "rupert" and "vet" on this site and you'll see how much we've needed good insurance  ::)

i hope he gets better soon  :luv:

lots of hugs from

ellie and rupert

Hi,

And thanks for the replies, we have taken out the cover with Pet Plan as they can insure him from now so our new policy will just follow on from the free one. Parker is still not at home and won't be home until tomorrow (hopefully) they done the blood tests which all came back normal apart from his white blood cells (or something) was higher than normal which they expected as he's poorly. He was still being sick last night, and then again this morning they haven't fed him and he's still on fluid - they done an xray & it showed some foreign bodies (whatever that might be) they doubt whether they will be able to tell what it is when he eventually passes it. So with him still being sick they can't release him, it's horrid we have only had him at home since beginning of the month and he's already in the vets :(. My girls are missing him something rotten & the house seems very quiet without him padding around or racing and skidding on our laminate floor.
