mounting
« on: October 01, 2010, 06:20:05 PM »
My pup, Saffy, always mounts our (girl) springer, Cody.  She does this usually when they are playing but she is doing is more and more and it is quite embarassing as she doesn't mind if their is an audience.  I just wonder why she does this?  I thought it was a dominance thing but if so, they why doesn't cody mind?  Or is it just excitement?
There is a puddle on the floor,
tis there for all to see,
now is this puddle H20,
or is this K9 pee?

Mine do it when they are overexcited.  ::) Jewel, my spayed 14 year old even does it to my neutered old Jordie!  :o ::) :005:

My spayed Labrador still occasionally gives her duvet some special attention :005: :005:

The boys only hump weaker male dogs occasionally....they're trying to place their scent all over the other dog - they wouldn't dream of doing it on a dog bigger or tougher than them...it's all about trying to big themselves up.

Serial humping needs attention in older dogs but in puppies, all quite natural.  Diverting attention away from the humping can often have good results - clap your hands, squeak a toy, call your dog to you...just interrupt it to break the habbit but don't draw attention to it.

Posie has occasionally humped her monkey toy since we got her home at 8 weeks old. The monkey was twice her size at that time. Now she will still give monkey a seeing to  :shades: and her big cuddly caterpillar, Charlie, gets the business every so often. Her favourite toy though is a sock. Any sock! I bundled a few together and when playing tug with her she will sometimes rear up and "hug" it with her front paws while trying to hump it standing up  :005:

She hasn't tried it with any dogs, not even her friend the one year old Westie male who she tends to have the edge over.

mine both to it to each other when playing gets a bit exciting, but it doesnt last long.  as a much taller lab, Taz tends to slip off Kira anyway :005:
