Adapting after a beach holiday
« on: May 29, 2012, 12:40:50 PM »
Quite a few weeks ago we, kids and Flo had a lovely beachside holiday on The south coast ( south of Sydney) Flo had hours and hours of long runs on the beach, swims, and back at the beach house loads of kids and visitors.
Since back home , and into her usual routine of a long run ( hr to hr half) in the morning, and walk to and from school ( 15 min each way) and the usual rowdy bunch of kids gathering at our central house after school, she took weeks to adjust back.  Her behavior was very needy, barking , emptying the waste paper bin, barking at food.  It was like she wanted the beach life back again and couldn't settle for our everyday life which I think is rather stimulating for her with lots if play and romping with the kids.
Anyway this week she seems to have gotten back into rhythm and has ceased the barking and emptying of paper bins, and the forever presenting me with a ball.
Has anyone else had a cocker who has taken awhile to settle back into routine after a holiday?

And I forgot to say she's also taken to ignoring any commands since the holiday, so I'm back ti basics with treats, her recall was pretty good before now she likes to ignore me.

No, in a word, no time at all!  He loves coming back to his routine and adjusts immediately.

We got back late last night after camping for a few days, and he went straight outside and did a 'patrol', and then settled down on the sofa with a contented sigh.  This morning was business as usual, with not a paw out of step  :lol2:

Could it be something else with Flo?  How old is she?

Altho I have not had a holiday as such for a while, I remember Smudge - as well as liking the difference of a holiday - loved to get back in the old routine once home, and like Helen's pooch would go a for patrol round the garden and then settle down quite happy to be home  :luv:
Remembering Smudge 23/11/2006 - 3/8/2013, Branston 30/8/14 - 28/10/22, and Minstrel 24/6/13 - 13/8/24 all now at the Bridge.

Maybe it's a co-incidence and its something else, perhaps her age?  She is 2 in July?

could be age, bit of pushing the boundaries again.

If she was out of routine, going back into routine could just have confused her  ;)

Our old dog, Penny used to take a little while to settle after going camping (every few weeks in the summer months for the agility shows). As a dog that slept downstairs in her basket (not allowed on the bed or sofa) I think she quite enjoyed the spoils of sleeping on the end of my sleeping bag (it was cold!) and a cooked breakfast in the mornings  :005: She'd do full days of agility, winning prizes resulting in lots of treats  :005: When she got back home it took her a little while each time to come back down to earth  :005:

If she was out of routine, going back into routine could just have confused her  ;)

I think this is the case. We're going away with Mika and Rio in a few weeks time and I know from previous experience Rio will be quite miffed to come home  :005: She acts up to when she gets back! Mind you, I think we all get the post holiday blues - dogs included  :005:

Maybe then a mix of age and holiday blues ( it was a delightful holiday for us all).  Flo really has lost her recall, so I'm going to have to carry around treats again and re- establish the training.
