My dog was started on Drontal plus last January and repeated every 3 months until this January when I decided that it may be responsible for my dogs ill-heath.
Up until the end of August 2011 my husband was the main walker of Ozzy who is now 7 years old as I was working full time plus.
When I retired I started to notice that he [the dog not my husband] was not walking as well has he used to.
He was used to 3 or 4 walks per day anything between 30 to 60 minutes.
I began to notice that he was sometimes walking slow with his head down, not wanting to go very far and sometimes only out to the front gate and back, although he always wanted to go at his usuall times.
I took him to the vets suspecting arthritis but because he was his normal self in the house, jumping on the settee and up and down the stairs she said it was not arthritis!
Then began various blood/urine tests. One urine test was diluted and cushings disease was suspected, he had a stimulation test which involved him staying in vets all day, but this came back negative.
Then the vet was talking about a water deprivation test to test for a form of diabetes, but another urine test came back normal.
While all this was going on I also noticed the his stools were sometimes very runny and slimmy, I think this may had been happening for a while but my husband said he had not noticed.
Vet then suspect colitis or irritable bowel disease.
To cut a long story short Ozzy is at the moment on egg and pasta and I am slowly introducing other foods.
The reason I suspected Drontal is because for 2 weeks before his last dose was due I noticed he was nearly back to normal. Then when he had his last dose he became unwell again.
I mentioned this to the vet and although she said it is very powerfull and it does not agree with some dogs she did not think any adverse reaction would last for more than a few days.
It has now been 5 months since last dose of Drontal and Ozzy is slowly returning to normal.
I would be interested in any comments you have, agree or not.
