Raw Hide Chews
« on: January 02, 2013, 07:58:31 PM »
Just wondering if anyone gives their pups rawhide chews? Zac is 12 weeks old and our local pet shop said that it was ok to give him the pure rawhide rolled up white chews but not the cigar type ones. He loves them and helps to keep him quiet for a while.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!!! :D

My pup adores bulls pizzles, I was recommended these as a better option than rawhide. You can buy them on eBay or I have found they sometimes have them in an independent pet store locally.

Is there any particular make that you buy?  They do have bulls pizzles on amazon and pet supermarket.

I give Smudge rawhide knots ...and he enjoys them, although at one time I used to give him one when I was going out, I don't do that now.  I was alerted to the possible chance of him choking, he now only has one when I am around to watch what he is doing.

The reason I chose knots over cigars is the possibility that the rolls can become unravelled after a while, thus forming a large sloppy mess - difficult to hold whilst trying to take from pups mouth, if necessary. (the knots - as long as he is chewing only one end can be held easier as it is dry).

Archie won't touch normal ones but he loves the ones that have little bits of dried chicken in them. I think they are made by "8 in 1" They last just long enough to keep him busy and clean his teeth. He also loves pizzles. I get them from PAH whenever they have them in.

I have been giving holly rawhide bones which keep her busy for hours and stop her chewing the rug.   Have to watch her though as when they splinter they need to go

I don't give Brodie rawhide, instead I buy from Zooplus, which have a brilliant selection of natural treats - Brodie is a big fan :005:. There is a lot of choice, particular favourites are pizzle sticks and venison trachea :P. Most are low fat too

Just scroll down to the natural dried dog snacks:

I ordered the natural cow's ears from Zooplus and Toby loves them.  It only takes him 15 minutes to eat one though.  :o

Most pizzles are fine. Zooplus is fab for natural treats

You could try Imageshack. I use that instead of photobucket.

Our 3 get the really long cigar rawhides, last them forever. They all love pizzles also, I get a huge box from here http://www.mutleyandmog.co.uk/news/new-premium-pizzles-now-in-stock same place I get the rawhide from, think I got some venison tongues aswell, must of got lost in the 'dog cupboard'...tootles off to go look for them  :005:
