scratching
« on: February 20, 2013, 09:06:32 AM »
Kez's hot spot had healed nicely, so I left off the buster collar.    Now she has scratched it & made it bleed so we are now back to wearing it again, which hurts me  >:(,  I did buy a soft one online but it turns inside out every time she passes by something or goes into her cage, I've tried it on with & without her normal collar & inside-out, so that was a waste of money. :005:

My question is...........I have prescribed Cetirizine Hydrochloride 10 mg (Piriton equivalent)...........would half of a tablet be harmful to her? to stop her inching, if you think it's o.k. how often would she be allowed to take it?

Waiting for the answer in anticipation :dunno:    Julie

One of my dogs nicked a packet of cetirizine hydrochloride out of my handbag last year, which obviously prompted a very worried call by me to my vets  :shades:
The reply was.....it isn't on their list of poisonous drugs for dogs, but, it isn't on the recommended one either ....she explained that the only one actually tested on dogs and therefore recommended to use is the ordinary drowsy Piriton  ;)
I think Teva ate about one and a half tablets (cetirizine), though it was hard to tell as she had chewed up the packet....she suffered no ill effects what so ever, and sadly it didn't make her drowsy  :005:

Thanks for replying so promptly, it sounds as though 1/2 one wouldn't do her any harm.
