I would be interested to know what you think
« on: February 20, 2013, 07:36:49 PM »
Ozzy vomited on Saturday and again on Monday, he never vomits, if anything upsets his stomach it usually shows up the other end.
I am trying to work out why he vomited.

He has been on Metacam and Tramadol for some weeks now although have managed to reduce and stop the
Tramadol last Friday.

On Friday I applied some soil improver to the garden but because I was not sure what was in it I fenced the area off, knowing that if he smelt something interesting he would be on like a shot. Although the packaging did not warn against keeping pets away.
Anyway he did manage to get on the area and before I could stop him he grabbed some and eat it so when he was sick  the next day I put it down to that.

I have also been slowly introducing trays of Wainrights wet food for tea (he has been having Wainwrights kibble for about 12 months for breakfast and I have always cooked for his tea). He seemed fine on the wet food and by the end of last week had increased to have half a tray a day.

Also, at the end of last week I had just introduced a new treat from Zoomadog, 100% duck breast, only a very small amount to make sure he was OK with it.

He normally does 2 poos a day, am & pm but over these few days he was doing 3 large ones a day.

When he was sick again on the Monday I did not know what to think.

The duck treats have gone in the bin and I have gone back to home cooking.

I have also pannicked and stopped the Metacam has I have been concerned about long term use.
Luckily he seems to be walking OK at the moment, this may be the Synoquin working, as this was started the same time as Metacam I have not been able to assess the effects.

The main things is he seems OK and poo has also gone back to normal.

I would be interested to hear what you think made him sick.

I would imagine its a bit of a combination of things with the drugs and the soil improver being the prime candidates. Was it wainwrights trays or pouches? Half a tray is probably enough for a whole days food (depending on his age and weight) so if you are giving kibble as well that could explain the extra poo and possibly he was feeling over fed which maybe could have made him sick? I'm just thinking aloud here. Hopefully someone with more expert knowledge will be able to give better advice. Glad he seems to be walking better and is on the mend.

Thanks Archie bean.

He is 8 and weights 20kg.
He only has 50gms of kibble and I keep a few of these for treats through the day and it was the Wainwrights trays.

He has suddenly started to drink more than normal so I am now very worried that he is having an adverse reaction to the Metacam, will see how he goes over the weekend and may have to go back to the vets.

Although, strangely since I have stopped the Metacam he seems much better than he has been for the last couple of years. More energy and he has just had a lovely 30 minute walk, although he has 4 walks a day they are usually  5, 10 or 15 minutes at most.

I don't know what to think.
