William was the same when he was very young and I had to put some temporary fencing in the garden to keep him off areas where he could pick up stones and gravel. I bought some cheap plastic clematis netting to fence off the areas and that was enough to keep him off. Luckily, once I stopped him from doing it either the novelty wore off, or he just outgrew it, and it didn't become a habit.

Please be careful as swallowing stones can be dangerous for dogs if the stones don't all pass through safely, so I suggest you find a way of keeping him off the gravel.

Fudge was the same - little monster used to hide them in his mouth but you could tell he had one in his gob because you could see his bottom teeth :005:

Kept telling him to leave them and he grew out of it - he has now turned his attention to the different types of slurry on the farm tracks  :020:

If you are fishing around in his mouth a lot, he might get sensitive to it and swallow the stones quicker to stop you getting them. You don't want him to stop trusting you.

Maybe try swapping for something tasty instead? :) And also as Elaine said, you'd be best to stop him getting to the gravel if you can. They are little monkeys aren't they!
Julie, Ruby and Jem. And never forgetting our first precious dog, Cassie x

We are mid way through completely flagging the area so won 't be a problem for long. Thanks or all your comments
