Albert's got to have a lump removed
« on: March 09, 2013, 01:09:59 PM »
Just got back from the vets.  Alberts developed a few lumps in recent months, we was checked out a few months ago and the vet said they were nothing to worry about, just fatty lumps. Have taken him again this morning as was concerned that one of the new lumps (on his shoulder) didn't feel the same as the other ones.  The vet says he's concerned that this new lump is a mast cell tumor and wants to remove the lump and do a biopsy on Monday.

Am really worried about this, trying to stay positive but its difficult not to worry.  Has anyone else been through anything like this?

Absolutely everything crossed for your boy.

Hoping it's just another of those innocent lumps that cockers are prone.  If not, just praying that it has been spotted early....and he'll be ok. Xxx

Hope everything goes well on Monday and it is nothing more serious than a fatty lump.

Let's hope it's just a bigger fatty lump. Our last cocker had loads and some were under the skin, but then he got a nasty huge warty-looking thing (about an inch in diameter, I seem to remember) on his shoulder, which also turned out to be benign when it was removed.

Fingers crossed the news is good next week.

Just realised that the vet didn't tell me not to give Albert his breakfast before his op tomorrow. Assume he won't be able to eat before but don't suppose anyone can tell me?

If Albert's having a general anaesthetic tomorrow, which I'm sure he must be, then you should have been told something along the lines of no food after about 8 or 9.00pm tonight and only sips of water after then. Our vet always gives an information sheet explaining everything, but it looks like yours has forgotten.

If there isn't an out of hours number that you can phone today then probably best to do as above and check with the surgery in the morning.

Hope it all goes well tomorrow and that the lump is harmless :bigarmhug:

Oh no, poor Albert.
I hope it's nothing bad. Elaine's advice is great.
Thinking of you tomorrow :luv:

One of the vets near here forgot to tell my friend that before she took her dog in to be spayed (so the op had to be postponed a month). I'd try not to feed him and check with the vet first thing.
