My Baggage
« on: May 16, 2013, 09:08:58 AM »
Just been reading the poems on Many Tears website & found myself sobbing and this one really hit home
Give those rescues a chance & most importantly love, kindness & time - extra kisses & cuddles for my boys

MY BAGGAGE

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed
All nicely tucked up in my warm new bed
I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget
There is so much to carry, so much to regret
Hmm ... yes there it is, right on top
Let's unpack loneliness, heartache and loss
And there by my leash hides fear and shame
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave
I still have to unpack my baggage called pain
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me
Will you add to my baggage?  Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things and take me right back?
Do you have time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage, to never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see
But I do come with baggage - will you still want me?

Another one sobbing here.

I have never owned a rescue but if ever there is something that would make me think next time round it's this.

Just reading this how they need love and kindness. Having had Jessie -fizz-before for two weeks I see a change each day. She was and still is so frightened for two days she ran in circles wouldn't come back in the house.each day is slightly better . She still won't come up to me but follows me everywhere. She is so lovely and we love her to bits. Please try and rescue these dear souls.

Just heart-breaking, when I think of what baggage Harry arrived with, it just makes me love him more for all his worries and fears  :luv: :luv:

It's a very touching poem and I hope it does make more people consider a rescue dog :luv: Some of the stories really are heartbreaking and it's a miracle some dogs come out if it still as trusting as they are.

On a happier note though not all rescue dogs come with 'baggage'; Tilly was left in a pretty pants rescue by her previous owners (the rescue dogs were in bare kennels in a big shed on a property where the people were also breeding American Bulldogs, it has since closed down!) but they had trained and taken care of her, they just couldn't keep her any more. I've said many times that although she IS a baggage she didn't come with any baggage. Other than a fear of all things Dyson shaped and stubbornness on a pathological level she's about the easiest and most adaptable dog you can imagine, you can take her anywhere. She does Applicant Assessments for Hearing Dogs because she's so good with people of all ages and abilities and she's also a stooge dog for the hearing dogs in training because of her incredible ability to ignore you so hard she literally doesn't see you if she doesn't want to so she's totally and utterly disinterested in them no matter what they do :lol2:
