Can anyone help?
« on: August 29, 2013, 03:46:15 PM »
My dog was used at stud last year but turned out to be sterile. His younger 'brother' has just been used and the older one is now frantically sniffing everything. Poor chap. I used blankets which have now been removed from the house and hosed the garden but he's still beside himself. So before I bring him back indoors after the next mating, I was thinking of mopping floors, disinfecting the garden, washing anything and everywhere she has touched down as well as changing my clothes. I thought it would be the mating area he would be interested in but it's everything she has touched. Do you think this would help or is his sense of smell so powerful he will still smell her? I do feel sorry for him.  :016:

Why can't you mate the dogs at the bitches house?

I thought matings were usually carried out on stud's territory?

They are. Going to do a big clean up tomorrow and see how that goes. He's ok now, thankfully. I wasn't expecting him to react like that and felt bad for him but now I'm prepared for it as I can be.

Good that he's ok now - poor boy. Just been walking my 3 out in the fields and there was woman walking her in season springer. Had to put my entire boy on lead as all he wanted to do was follow where she'd been. Luckily the male pup hasn't developed an interest - yet...

Feel really mean for not realising it was going to bother him. But you live n learn and it's still all new to me.

Yes I feel sorry for him too - can he not go elsewhere for a few days?  It is a normal reaction for any entire dog when there as been a bitch at the peak of her season in the vicinity and can affect a dog for days.

Did a big clean up job today and he was much better, but having the garage door replaced and cleared out in time for the next one at the end of September, so she doesn't have to come anywhere near the house, as the garage is in a block down the road. Thanks for your replies x
