How often should I treat my puppy for fleas?

Hi my puppy was treated for fleas by her breeder using Frontline, I did ask the vet about fleas on her first check up, but she didnt seem too concerned about fleas in general.
I'm wondering how regularly I should treat her for fleas?

we asked our vet the same thing yesterday, Huxley is 10 weeks and was sprayed just before he left the breeder at 8 weeks.

The vet has suggested in 2 weeks we should need the next application but the 'on the back of the neck' variety - i think it's then once a month

Teal has not been treated since she was a pup, I use a flea comb every week to check and will treat if I find evidence of fleas.

Same here. I don't use any type of flea or tick preventative and rely on spotting any little "friends" when I groom William and Louis.

I hadn't seen any for a few years until about 2 weeks ago when I found one on Louis. I treated both dogs with Practic and just to be on the safe side used Indorex spray on the soft furnishings, carpets, under the skirting boards and their beds. I wash all their bedding every week so it had an earlier wash than normal and was sprayed afterwards. No further signs of fleas seen.

I don't like using chemicals on them regularly but will use them when needed.

Me too. I use Billy No Mates herbal treatment in Archie's food and only resort to the chemicals if Inactually find and of the little visitors.

Only ever treated Erin about every 4 weeks during the summer months and only had one incidence of fleas when she was a pup...she is now 8. Tilly has been treated every month with advocate until October when I missed her treatment and lo and behold following a trip to the groomers I found a solitary flea. Applied advocate at that time and treated whole house.
Tilly just been groomed again a week ago and 2 nights ago found another solitary flea ..have spent the last 2 days washing all bedding...dog beds...disinfecting floors and spraying whole house again....have also flea combed her for an hour tonight and not found anything

Every month in summer  I frontline combo and every 8 weeks in winter.
Riley is blue roan, very dark and VERY hairy and even though I brush every day It would still be easy to miss a flea so I would rather prevent.

Same here.  Have only had to actually use flea treatment rarely - probably less than once a year - so am very glad not to have put chemicals on her unecessarily

Just a quickie re fleas, I haven never ever seen a cat or dog flea (I know! )
How big are they, ? how "easy" to spot , or is it if the dog is scratching lots that people investigate?
I just couldnt bear the thought of having them in the house  let alone on the dog.


Not keen either on putting chemicals on him either now people mention it (even though I dont give a single thought of the chemicals I put on my hair every few months) lol.

They're small, dark coloured and run through your dog's coat across the skin very quickly. They hop as well but I think you're more likely to see them run across the skin to find a hiding place. I was lucky to spot the one on Louis a couple of weeks ago as he's quite dark, although not as dark as Riley. I had Louis upside down on the grooming table to comb his nether regions and the flea scuttled across his groin area . They're a whole lot easier to see on William.

That's how I spotted the one on Tilly..ran right across her belly .....the other night I got it with the flea comb. They are small maybe 3-4 mm in length and reddish / brown in colour...horrible little blighters

Thanks, I will get a flea comb, and just look out for them
