Nala has gone off her food
« on: December 19, 2013, 04:47:57 PM »
Nala is 8 months old and has been fed on Chudleys since tiny.  She is now on Junior but the bag we bought last week has much smaller pieces than the previous bag and she seems to have gone off it.  Up until a couple of months ago her food was gone in seconds, now she just looks at it and some of this mornings is still in the bowl.  We add water as she does not seem to like it dry,  yesterday I added sardines and it was gulped up. I don't know if we should change it or continue to add something and if so what.  Any suggestions thank you?

Hi there,

my Alfie was the same -up until he turned around 1 year-old, he used to eat and finish off his bowl of dry food (Wainwrights) in seconds. Then suddenly he decided that he didn't like it. I was initially worried because he went from being a greedy, eat absolutely anything, dog to one that refused to touch his food. I then went out and bought him some Wainwrights wet food/meat and he ate that straight away. I now just keep him on the wet food as he no longer wishes to eat dry. I did try a couple of other brands of dry food but no, he won't touch it. You could perhaps try introducing a different brand of dry to Nala's current food to see if it's the brand that she doesn't like, or maybe you could try mixing wet food and dry food together?

Could it be her teeth or is she due a season?

Almost identical story here except Archie was on JWB kibble mixed with naturediet when he stopped eating. Moved to just wainrights wet and haven't had a problem since. All my previous cockers have had a fussy stage at a similar age, although none as bad as Archie. They all ate once they were hungry but Archie just wasn't interested. Perhaps try adding a little wet food mixed in to see if it entices her.
Like Sheryl says though, it could be secondary teething or maybe a season?

Thanks for the replies.  Nala des seem to be taking longer to eat her little biscuit treats so maybe it is her teeth.  She has not been in season yet so another possibility.  I will also try some wet/dry food and see if that makes any difference.

Hi, we are having similar problems with Pebbles over past week or so; she isn't refusing kibble, but not eating all of it.

She is also a lot quieter, sleeping more, with small bursts of play.

At 5months we are waiting on season; what are the things to watch for?
