Orijen Puppy Food
« on: January 05, 2014, 12:03:36 PM »
Does anyone here feed, or has fed, Orijen puppy food?

The reason I ask is that I feed this to Jamie and his daily amount should be 80gm.  This works out at a little over 27gm per meal which does not seem much.  His breeder fed him Royal Canin and his diet sheet suggested a couple of handfuls plus either scrambled egg, tuna or raw mince.  Jamie is still looking for something to eat if I only give him 27gm, so I have increased this to 45gm three times per day.  Even with this amount he very quickly demolishes it and is looking for more.  Henry had Arden Grange as a puppy, and he never ate all of it at each meal when I gave him the recommended daily amount.

Both Milly and Chaz started off on Orijen Puppy and are now on Orijen Adult and Acana, both from Champion Petfoods, Canada.

Because the kibble is very high in protein with no filler content at all, the quantities fed are quite small when compared to other dry foods. The amounts quoted on the packs are a guide only and should be adjusted to suit your own dog but, given the food's concentrated nature, it's very easy to overfeed if comparing it to the amounts recommended for other foods.

The manufacturers are usually very good at answering specific feeding queries so it may be an idea to send them an e-mail with all your dog's details, age, weight, activity level etc., to get a more precise recommendation.

Chaz is a working cocker and has a higher activity level than Milly, our show cocker. Chaz is 18 months old, 18 kilos in weight and is fed on Orijen Adult at 140 grams per day split between two meals. Milly is 3 years old, 12 kilos in weight and fed on Acana (Slightly less protein), at the rate of 110 grams per day, also split between two meals.

As with all dry foods please make sure that fresh drinking water is always available....Hope this helps.

Bob.
