Easing the puffiness and redness is soothing to ANY sex of dog.  If it makes my big butch dog feel better (who, after reading your post, is far more comfortable with his feminine side having skirt and feathers that either you or your dog  ) than I don't really care.  Using tea is not cosmetic nor is it vanity and definitely not sexist 

I agree about eye scratches ulcers and dealing with them but if there is a discharge from both eyes then it sounds more like an infection

And a discharge can also be caused by lens damage. So again, be careful using over the counter infected eye drops until you know the cause.

Agree (and at £14 a consult - what's to lose?).

It's also very hard (and potentially dangerous) trying to diagnose possible conditions/ not on a forum without a) having seen the dog, and more importantly, b) having the relevant experience and training to be able to do so.  (just my opinion)

I agree that you have to be careful with eyes - I have a dog with eye issues so I am familiar with this 

I'm sure the OP will take her dog to the vet should the 'slight' discharge in both become any worse.   If it's a scratch or an ulcer it would usually present in one eye worse than the other unless both have been damaged.

If in doubt of course the vet is best

Thanks for all your advice..Seems better today only a little discharge in the corner this morning first thing..Trying the tea today and if its still there tomorrow I will be off to the vet for a consultation xx

That's great news!

Sorry to be pedantic - I'm sure everyone thinks I'm an idiot already - but the dog's immune system has done the job in curing what was a mild infection. The saline/tea only keeps the crud from building up in the eye. Helen may well be right that tea does a better job (even on male dogs!) by soothing the eye but I'm guessing there's not a lot of difference. Some people recommend one, some the other.

By the way, the lack of skirt and feathers is not an attempt to make Lenny look butch but a practical response to the mud on the heath and woodland round here. As a neutered dog, Lenny's sexuality may be compromised but I'm completely comfortable with mine. As Caitlin Moran is one of my favourite columnists I claim to be a fully reconstructed, pro-feminist man.
