How kibble is made (from Discovery Science channel)

OK, I admit I'm a raw feeder and choose not to feed kibble to my dogs. This video isn't anti kibble, but probably doesn't do kibble many favours as it goes through the manufacturing process of a kibble that appears to have maize as it's main ingredient and no meat at all :o so clearly not the best (ironically you can see the name 1st Choice when it's packaged up).

Basically everything is ground down to a powder, mixed up, cooked, extruded into pellet form then sprayed with fat and flavourings to make it palatable. I accept this is a poor quality product and it would have been better if they'd focussed on a decent quality kibble with real meat in it and little or no grain, but there are some worrying things said such as "Too much meat flavour can turn them off the food".

 :lol2:

both maize products from what's been said  ;)  Maybe I should swap my cornflakes for the brand name kibble mentioned above  ph34r

I haven't seen the cornflakes being made and while I appreciate that raw is an effective way of feeding for some I do think that not all kibbles are the devils work, and I really don't think my dog is being harmed by how he is fed.  As has been said it's a very low grade kibble and I'd like to see the equivalent from a respected brand  ;)

My dog is very fit and healthy for his age - and he's half kibble fed. I'm not sure if you feed kibble Michelle but I expect your senior dogs are the same.  There's no underlying conditions Jarvis has that could potentially be improved by changing to wholly raw and his teeth, weight, muscle tone exceed my vets expectations of a nearly 9 year old.

I'm happy with how he is and how I feed him  ;) (and there's no maize kibble or cornflakes in his diet  :D  )

Totally agree. My senior (and junior) dogs are and always have been kibble fed. They're fit, happy and healthy and I don't feel I'm depriving/abusing them by feeding them the way I do  :D.

(am interested reading articles also that suggest feeding dogs anything but 'human grade' meat is somehow bad. We happily feed dogs all sort of animal parts that we wouldn't eat (think pizzles, ears, hooves and the like), yet when a bag of kibble may contain ingredients not usually consumed by humans, it's all of a sudden a problem?)
