hi all I brush maisie every day but have just found a tiny matt very close to her skin under her armpit.  cant believe I missed there.  maisie isn't easy to keep still.  what is the best way to get the matt out and what should I use.  she is a working cocker so her coat isn't too think.  many thanks.

Hi, Bea was terrible for mats under her armpits mainly because I use a harness on her, I always used a mat splitter as Bea is very wriggly when grooming so I found that safer.
It's not easy when they wiggle >:D

I've always found the safest way to do it yourself and avoid injury is to use a larger toothed comb and either thinning scissors (I prefer) or scissors. Put the comb into the coat and behind the matt so then put the scissor on the comb into the fur in front of the comb and cut. That way you can't cut the skin but you can get the matt. Hope that makes sense.
