Switching from puppy food to adult food
« on: February 17, 2014, 06:16:44 PM »
When has everyone switched from puppy food to adult food, from reading online I have got a few ideas but I don't know when to change it. Betty is currently on skinners field and trial puppy kibble. She cries with great excitement when she knows her food is being prepared. We now give her mackerel and some chicken once a week on different days and reduce her kibble when giving her these foods. She is a very greedy puppy and loves her food.

Any help would be really appreciated thanks

It always depends on the make of the food, but Skinners now do a Junior from the age of 6 months up to 18 months.

I've seen that online but our dog food supplier doesn't think they will stock it.... Which is a shame. We want to try our best to support our local dog supply shop also. I have asked them but they don't think it's worth getting in.   ;)

Hi, Bea was on Skinners Field and Trial puppy, I think I changed her over around 11 - 12 months as I could not get a definitive answer on line and I felt this was the right time for her, I don't remember the junior being around so went straight to skinners adult Field and Trial.

Bea is doing very well on it.

I'm sure there will be someone more experienced along soon to help.

So is she a working dog then? I wondered if it was wrong because she isn't a working cocker that it wasn't any good for her? But we kept on skinners at the breeders used it and she loves it. I have been looking at the adult skinners. Many thanks for the help x

I am only in the process of changing Tilly over to adult now. She's just turned 1 but we had sooooo many problems with her tummy and losing weight that I kept her on puppy food longer. I'm slowly introducing her onto adult food and it will have taken around two months to do so. A month left until she is fully onto adult food.

Bea is a show cocker and like Betty her breeder had her on Field and trial puppy, you do need to use the quantity's on the bag as a guide, every dog is different they may do more or less excercise and so need more or less food.

I keep an eye on Bea's waist ( far more than my own ) :lol2: and while she was growing I put her on the scales monthly.

I've been told field and trial is the same ingredients as standard skinners, the only difference is that it is for " working dogs" so you don't pay the vat hence it's cheaper.

That is very helpful thanks for that. I'm slightly panicky over Betty's weight so I will definately look at the guidelines.

Thanks again  to all the comments off everyone  xx
