Natures menu and Nature Diet
« on: March 02, 2014, 04:19:08 PM »
So my little fussy 9wk old appears to want more than dry kibble! After eating VERY. Little kibble this week (first week) and turning his first 2 meals down today- I mixed in a little NatureDiet with his kibble and down it all went!

Do people have views/preference on these 2? ND Seems to be more available but I like the sound and ingredients of natures menu more- apart from the fact it's frozen?! More prep?

Be keen to hear any users views?

(Did read some reviews of "off" packs of ND around)

thanks in advance!

Hi. No experience of nature's menu but we feed nature diet mixed with kibble to Meg. She seems to enjoy it and I believe it to be a good quality food. I buy it in bulk from Amazon.

Thanks! Nero has just scoffed his second meal of the day with Naturediet- he's eaten more today with that than he has all week!
Might stick with it,

BTW check here for dirt cheap price! http://www.berriewoodwholesale.co.uk/sec/5620/Naturediet/

I think quite a few people on here feed Nature Diet and kibble together successfully.

As for nature's Menu, it's best not to mix raw with processed as they digest at very different rates. Raw is digested quickly whereas processed foods (kibble or wet) take longer to digest so mixing raw and processed runs the risk of an upset stomach.

Mine are raw fed but I always have a couple of trays of Nature Diet in the house as a meal standby in case I forget to thaw out frozen raw food.

Minstrel (8 months) has Naturediet Adult on it's own (he was on ND  pup) but when I had Smudge he used to have a little mixed with his Burns Kibble with no problems at all. Smudge had some added because I found Burns would give him constipation and a little bit of ND helped the passage through.

The lids can sometimes be a problem with Naturediet and I have had a few bad'ns in my time, but overall I find it a good food.

I get mine from Vetuk, £13.96 for 18X396grm trays. I buy two boxes at a time so postage is free. They deliver promptly (well I have never had probs)

If you are feeding puppy kibble, probably would be best to get the puppy Naturediet too, but do be aware of the large quantities that ND suggest.

eta when I order from vetuk min. order for free delivery is £29.00 so I usually add something extra to make up the difference - only needs something small, poo bags for instance. Otherwise delivery is £1.99.
Remembering Smudge 23/11/2006 - 3/8/2013, Branston 30/8/14 - 28/10/22, and Minstrel 24/6/13 - 13/8/24 all now at the Bridge.

Brodie is fed NatureDiet Sensitive/lite and does very well on it. She used to be a terribly fussy dog and I had all sorts of trouble with her, but that changed after a bout of pancreatitis. I wanted to reply to this part in specific:

I've had it happen a couple of times, and my supplier (Zooplus) have always paid out no questions asked. Usually just a couple of packets in the box, and once the box was all bashed so it was clear it was the delivery's fault. However, about a month or so ago I got a whole box which was just rotten - the smell was unbelievable :P. I think it must have been dropped in transit early on, and no one noticed. We ended up having to take it to the tip it was that bad. Again, Zooplus paid out no question.

Since it's only really happened two or three times (and I think we were just very unlucky with that last one) it's not something that's put me off getting it. I'd probably change suppliers before changing the food, if it started happening more frequently.

I mix natures menu and eden kibble fine, eden is grain free so that might have some bearing on it.
I buy the blocks of frozen mince, tripe etc, once defrosted they can be kept in a container in the fridge for a couple of days.
A pack lasts me about 3 days along with kibble.

I used Berriewood for Nature Diet and found that their bulk deal made them cheaper than Zooplus, and the box was better packed so less hassle with damages.   I tried Zooplus but each time I had a couple of damaged punnets, which were refunded, but I just didn't like the wastage this caused.

Think you'll find Berriewood is about the cheapest and it's delivered free. As you have to use a pack within 2 days you can make it go further by splitting the pack into maybe 4 or even 8 portions , wrap in foil and freeze it. Sometimes just that small amount works to mix with kibble and it works out a  bit cheaper

You do sometimes get the odd pack that's gone off if it gets damaged in transit at all, you can tell as soon as you open it. Berriewoods are good at replacing any but I never bother if it's just the odd one.

Thanks for the replies! Yeah I'm mixing about 50g NatureDiet with around 12-15g of Aplaws kibble per meal - he's only 9 weeks do both sides will go a long way- he is literally cartwheeling as I bring the food down whereas with kibble along he would sit looking at it!

Thanks for that, Elaine, yes I have contacted Zooplus in the past about how things are packed as think that was part of the cause of the couple of times I had burst packets. I like them though because of their selection of chews (and those Rocco chicken strips, Brodie would not be happy if I stopped getting them :005:). Could always go to Berriewood for the NatureDiet and still use Zooplus for the treats, though.

So, If I come home from work to find a wee chocolate cocker  :luv:  sitting on my doorstep with her bags packed, then I know you have been very naughty and not placed your Zooplus order!  :lol2:  Bertie loved a Zooplus parcel, he would sit beside it for ages, just making sure it didn't sprout legs and wander off  :005:  I do miss my boy  :luv:

:lol2: :lol2: yep, she will be there, waiting!

She adores it when her Zooplus box arrives (actually, she thinks any parcel I get through for her is for her!) and can't wait for me to open it. You should have seen her when that rotten box of NatureDiet came through, she thought all her Christmases had came at once :P. Had to put it at the other side of the house and she still spent ages trying to get to it.

Can only imagine how much you miss your lovely Bertie, he was a very special boy, as were his brother and sister :luv:
