Puppy in season and just not herself :(
« on: March 16, 2014, 01:11:08 PM »
Nala is in season, almost two weeks in and just not herself :'(  She seems a lot more sleepy and not the usual non stop cocker that never stops.  Is this normal?

Tilly came into her first season at 11 months old. She was a bit more quiet than normal and wasn't fussed about her walks. So I did games at home and let her chill. All dogs react differently but if your worried speak to your vet. They may want to she her. Sending hugs.

Bea's first season was at 10 months, all girls are different, Bea was off her food, drank more, slept more and was a little grumpy, understandably as her season was 6 weeks!.

Tuesday was the start of her second ( and last ) season, a couple of days before she laid flat on our kitchen floor as if to cool her belly, we gave her half her usual food as she wasn't interested and she still left some ,thankfully Friday she ate all her food and is now back to full food.

welsh cocker, I kept checking Bea from 6 months as you never know when it will happen, best to be sure as you don't want any accidents while out and about.

Not always ;)  if in doubt have her checked, especially if she is warm to the touch or needing to wee more often, they can pick up UTIs from constantly licking.  Pearl was 9 months old for her first season and was lethargic / off colour and did have a UTI.

I found she loved playing with a football in the back garden rather than going out for walks

Hope Nala picks up soon x

Agreed :) I just meant the behaviour changes can be a normal part of seasons, but yes, any physical symptoms should be checked out.

Lottie turned into emo teenager, half hanging out of her bed, with a "life is just too hard" kinda expression...

Willow had her first season at 7 months and two days, so was quite early.  She went very quiet and clingy.  She was off her food for a couple of days but soon picked up her appetite.  It was just her character that changed a little.  As soon as her season was over she was back to her normal self.  Bramble had her first one at 12 months, and she didn't change much at all.  No change in appetite nor did she seem any quieter.  I think every dog is going to react differently just as they all have different characters.  Plenty of comfort and quiet words helps them through, although previous posts are correct in that if there are physical issues, then these need checking out.

Tried to reply to your note earlier but got timed out  ph34r

Poor Lottie that's a shame  :005:  of course I'm hypersensitive on this topic due to Pearls experience  :shades: the UTI was the forerunner to the other issue she had in her second season - always best to get any concerns checked just in case  ;)
