Bed behaviour!
« on: April 03, 2014, 07:17:38 PM »
This is going to sound strange but Charlie is starting to sleep underneath his mattress in his crate and is therefore sleeping on the tray with a 3 inch mattress on top!

Do you think he just wants a plain no frills crate with no comfort :(

Has anybody else experienced similar?

Try putting in blankets on top of his bed, he might just want to smuggle into something. Jamie sleeps under our duvet cover upstairs during the day and pulls his blanket over him in his cage  :005:

I was thinking this but he chews / eats his blanket! Maybe I'll try this during day when I can keep an eye on him and take it away if he's eating it!

Sounds a similar trait though doesn't it, funny little things :)

When we had Jazz at 8 weeks of age we also had an eight year old cocker bitch, Molly.   They both slept in the kitchen, Molly in her bed and Jazz in his crate.   He would sit and stare longingly at her and obviously wanted to snuggle up.   However, as he wasn't house trained we did make him stay in the crate for the first few weeks and he would toss his bedding up and sit on the bare base of the crate with his bedding draped around his shoulders in protest as if having a tantrum.   As soon as we let them sleep together he was absolutely fine.

My two always used to do this when they were hot, so we had waterproof mats made of cooler material when it got warmer. Don't use crates now though so they sleep on the laminate/tiles when warm!

It used to be a tantrum thing but definitely isn't now as he does it to get comfy. Maybe he is hot, the crates covered and I have quite a warm house.

Jack's just over 8 months old now and has the same bed that we bought for him when we picked him up. It's in the corner in the kitchen and he loves it. However, if you move it or touch it he will pull it out from the corner and hump it. He only does it when you move it though. These pups have some odd habits!
