Housetraining forgotten after speying
« on: April 07, 2014, 11:15:54 AM »
Mouse was speyed 7 days ago and has now started toileting in the house! She has bounced back from the op and isnt unwell but I am mystified as to why she has regressed from asking to go out to just squatting where she wants. I havent managed to catch her in the act yet and have gone back to basics but wondered if anyone had any ideas why this could happen?

I don't know why it happens, but have a feeling it is not uncommon.
Remembering Smudge 23/11/2006 - 3/8/2013, Branston 30/8/14 - 28/10/22, and Minstrel 24/6/13 - 13/8/24 all now at the Bridge.

I have heard it is common as the muscles take time to recover but she may have a urine infection. Might be worth ringing your vet  :D

Also internal swelling/ bruising can take a few days to develop and then calm down - she may not have any warning of needing to go   :-\

Best to get her checked or have a chat to the vet when she goes for her post op check up.

Hope Mouse is ok x

Agree with the above, especially if it's just peeing that's the problem.

If she were mine I think I'd be phoning the vet to see if it's a fairly common occurrence immediately after spaying, or if they want to see her in case she has an infection or something. Hope she's back to normal soon :D

Thank you for your replies. She has had one post op check and is due to go back for a second this week. Will ring vet in morning if no different. It is the poo as well as the wee so wouldnt have thought it was just a wee infection?

We are just getting Bonnie back to normal after her spay nearly 6 weeks ago  >:D Although it was not house training, it was ALL other training. Its as though the spay sent her back to her puppy days. She wouldn't even sit for us; jumped and bounced at everyone and everything. We have had to go back to basics with all her training. Was like starting over again and I can only think that it is the hormones that sent her a bit crazy.

As it is toileting, it might be to do with her internal discomfort, as others have said so best get Mouse checked out. As long as your vet rules out any infections, I'd say just start again with toilet training as if she's a pup......blooming frustrating I know but its as if they forget everything. Best of luck and hope she improves quickly xxx

Thank you. Have had her checked over this morning and nothing found so will go back to basics! Must admit she was starting to be a little bit testing in other areas...typically teenage behaviour so maybe its a combination of things.
