First visit to the Groomers - What to ask for?

Hi guys,

So my blue roan puppy, Maya is 18 weeks old now and I would like her to have her first taste of going for a groom. Hopefully I will show her when she's a little older ( no experience at all of showing dogs so just for fun really ) so would like to know if I should ask the groomer for anything special or just a wash and dry for her first visit.

I have never taken a dog to the groomers before so am a complete novice so don't be afraid to state the obvious!

If you plan on showing, I'd really recommend learning how to bath and trim your puppy yourself Very few grooming parlours understand how to do a Cocker show trim (there are a few exceptions but not many) so why not have a go yourself? You'll find lots of advice on this board and there are also grooming DVDs etc you can buy. If you really don't want to and would prefer taking your pup to  groomer, then yes the first visit should just be a bath and perhaps a tidy up of feet and head etc (but make sure your chosen groomer understands not to use clippers anywhere if you want to show)

Thanks, I will watch a few videos and see if I feel confident. Will be sure to resist the temptation to clip her, although I am a dab hand with them due to my horses

f you have a go yourself, you can do NO harm, it will always grow back again.
