Bit of a scare after eating mushroom in the garden

Got back from our hols , collected ernie from the kennels and then let him out in the garden for a wee . Few minutes later went back into garden to find ernie busy in bushes . Closer inspection revealed 2 huge white mushrooms , ernie had eaten half of one and small part of the other ( they weren't there before our hols ).
Phoned the on call vets who advised to give ernie salt water to make him sick and then once he was sick to give him couple of slices of burnt toast to eat ( the charcoal helps apparantly). Luckily I put 2 dog treats in small amount of salty water and ernie drank the water to get to the treats and was then sick twice . He then had the burnt toast . Phoned vet back and he said as I'd got ernie to be sick he didn't need to be admitted to vets and he should be fine but obviously if I had any concerns to call them back .
Ernie seems completely unphased by the whole thing whereas I think I've gained a few more grey hairs !!
It never occurred to me that we could have toxic mushrooms growing in our garden !
Thank goodness he's okay .

That must have been so frightening for you.  So glad that Ernie is alright.  Thank you for posting this as we have some mushrooms in our front garden and I meant to remove them the other day and forgot.  They will be moved at first light tomorrow.

I had to take William to the vet around this time of year a few years ago. OH had walked the dogs and when he came back he told me that he'd seen William eating some little brown mushrooms but hadn't been able to stop him before he'd eaten a few mouthfuls.

William was given an injection to make him vomit and some charcoal that I had to give him over the following few hours. He was fine, and it's likely that quite a few of the many mushrooms around at this time of year are harmless. The problem is knowing which ones.
