puppy with runny tummy

Hello all

I have an 11 week old girl called Maggie who has developed very soft almost runny poos. She's on the same food as her breeder had her on, Purina, but has become obsessed with my older dogs chews, like the rawhide type things? Could this be causing the problem and any suggestions for alternatives?
Otherwise bright and happy, drinking plenty and generally causing havoc. It's been so long since I had a puppy in  the house I've forgotten what they can and can't have?!

It does not take a lot for a puppy to get an upset tum, I never give rawhide chews as they are not pleasant how they are made. I always use dried tripe which stinks awful, but is friendly to any sized dog.

Keep an eye on him and make sure he is drinking lots, if it persists give him a bland diet for a couple of days. It could be just the puppy settling in.

Yep I don't give mine hide chews anymore, for much the same reason (runny tum) also some of the  treats you can get can be full of additives, I found the marrowbone biscuits (the ones that look like sausage rolls) can upset my boys tums,

My boys are 2years and 1year Fish 4 dog Sea Biscuit tiddler treats usually go down well with Minstrel & Branston with no nasty consequences, and Minstrel likes their Salmon Strips. Their sea jerky ones are not so good for littlies, I have found, as they have a very abrasive composition designed for cleaning the teeth,  if puppy swallows them whole as Branston is likely to do, it can make them uncomfortable.

 A couple of Burns Kelties before they go to bed, stops the early morning pukes.

Also check the packs of treats, some are not suitable for pups under a certain age

Thank you for your help. 8 removed the raw hide and she stopped having a problem.
Unfortunatly she has the runs again and I can't work out why! She's bouncing around and her usual happy self but has had 3 very runny poos this morning.
With my adult dog I would just starve for 12 - 24 hours until it stopped then feed with tuna and rice but I'm not sure if this is the right option with puppy? She's 14 weeks.
Any advice?  All I'm doing at the mo is cleaning up poo in the house as my older dog is also having tummy troubles, but his is pancreatitus related.

Millie had the same problem at 14 weeks that lasted all weekend. I took her to the vets and her temperature was quite high. He gave her some antibiotics and she went on a diet of boiled rice and scrambled egg (microwaved, not fried) and that sorted her out.

Puppy eat all sorts of things when out on walks, maybe Maggie has eaten something she shouldn't have.

We bought Humphrey a chew root when he was about 12 weeks old, he gnaws at it every day and there's still a big chunk of it left. They're comparitively expensive versus a hide (ca. £10) but considering he's now 7 months and there's still a lot of chew left on it, I reckon it was good value. They don't smell like the hide things and are far more natural. ( Incidently, my German Shepherd nearly died after eating a real bone, which splintered and caused all sorts of internal problems, so I've never let any of my other dogs near one since).

P.S. - only down side to the root is, that when it got locked into the lounge by mistake last week, Humphrey's substitute was the leg of the bureau, which looks very similar !!

Boiled rice with poached chicken or white fish is good, you can give it to Maggie in small portions as this will help her stomach deal with it, also cooked Sweet potato should help firm things up just add about a table spoon in with the chicken etc.

Rawhide can upset stomachs, Bea loves carrots but her best thing to chew at that age was a old Towel!
