Visited Bobby on Monday
« on: April 14, 2016, 09:50:53 PM »
I started my new job on Monday, I'd arranged with his new owner to visit Bobby on my way home from work on this first day.

I really loved seeing him again after nearly two weeks and was rewarded with a rare lick on the face. He was clearly very settled and comfortable in his new home and is getting on well with his new, much older step brother, although the older spaniel was rather jealous of the attention Bobby was getting.

It would be fair to say that I regarded some of the comments I received about my attempts to rehome Bobby as unhelpful, deeply hurtful and abusive. This has been a very painful process for me, I love that dog to bits and am grieving over my loss even though I know he's happy and well looked after.

When I walked away on Monday I thought I heard a whimper, it broke my heart. I cried all the way home. I don't think it was because he was unhappy in his new home, I think he could sense it was goodbye.

Thanks for the update, its  good to hear Bobby's settled in his new home, I'm sure it must be a load off your shoulders knowing he's being well looked after. Try to put the any negative remarks on here behind you now, as was said at the time, the majority did really only have Bobby's interest at heart, and in the end, its all turned out ok.,Although its still painful for you, you did the right thing for your dog, so take solace in the fact that he has indeed found another happy loving home, you did right by him and that's the main thing.
HOpe the new job's going well! All the best....

I was forced to revoke a much loved dog once and I know what you are going through. In the end it was much better for the dog to find a new owner who had much more time to play with her and take her to interesting places, so I don't regret doing it, but it still hurts to leave doesn't it.

It was a brave thing to do and I'll be honest and say you are a stronger person than I am because I'm not sure I could.  I have a lot of respect for you for putting Bobby's needs first.

I can imagine that the last two weeks must have been two of the most stressful with starting a new job as well.  I hope your visit on Monday has put your mind at rest, having seen Bobby settled and happy in his new home.

Thank you for the update - wishing you all the best

Everything Jayne said comes from me too. I know I couldn't have done it for my own selfish reasons. You clearly put Bobby first....

Oh Neil.....firstly I am so sorry to read this, not sure how I had missed it - I can only imagine how very hard this must be, I have always followed your reports on Bobby as he has the look of my Ollie.  Plus also a few tips on my beloved Gloucestshire, which I sadly don't know to well but my grandfather and his family were from there.

Your love for Bobby and your concern for him, shows just how much you care.  It must have been so hard to visit him.  It has saddened me to read that you had harsh comments.  Anyone who followed your threads must have know how Bobby is loved very much.

Sending you all my support.

Julie
Cocker kisses and cuddles just make my day!

You are always with me darlings Jaypup and my precious Oliver you are so missed

Glad to hear that Bobby has settled into his new home.  :D

Well done for putting his welfare first and making what must have been an incredibly difficult decision.  :'(

I hope that, in the future, you will be in a position to have a dog again

Hope the job is going well  ;)

oh my, what a lovely lad. I know how heartbreaking this must have been for you, but you did the best for him and no one could ask for more.

I'm glad to hear he's doing well but I can only imagine how you must feel. It's a hard thing to give up something you love, but it's precisely because you love him so much that you did what you knew to be best for him.  :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

I can't say why in this life we have to face and are asked to make
very, very hard decisions that leave us brokenhearted,
sadly you have been asked that and the deep love that you had for your Bobby
carried you through, I know I speak for all of us, your friends, here on COL
we know how you feel  right now so we all send you many of these

Just caught up with this thread.  I Really admire you for your unselfish decision to rehome your beautiful Bobby.  He's happy and being well cared for which is what really matters at the end of the day.
Take care of yourself and all the very best in your new job.
