Sexual advances
« on: April 25, 2016, 06:30:10 PM »
Millie is now into week 2 of her season and all of a sudden Murphy (neutered at 9 months) is doing his very best to mount Millie (apologies if too graphic) and she is not exactly trying to deter him.

Up until a couple of hours ago he has shown no interest but he is now pursuing her around the house, and I have no idea why. There's no lead in that pencil.

Edit....and now Millie is trying to get to Murphys bits.

Do I just let them 'get on with it'?

No! Ideally keep them separate and if need be take Murphy to a relative or someone who can look after him until Millie has completely finished - poor lad will be driven demented plus may want to service every bitch he comes into contact with.....in season or not!

Murphy may be more 'capable' than you realise.  When e got our first dogs, they were form a surprise litter, where the family had an older female and a young male in the house, they did not realise that he could father pups at such a young age.  I think I might relocate a certain young man, otherwise it could result in DNA test and an appearance on Jeremy Kyle before you know it!  :005:

I'm hoping the fact that Murphy is neutered will keep us off Jeremy Kyle

Millie has been to the groomers today, just to get her claws done. The groomer sprayed her with some smelly stuff before she left and Murphy has been very amorous since she came home. Coincidence?

Rory (still entire) pretty much leaves our other 3 girls (all spayed) alone, but he gets rather amorous with Holly (our oldest lab) when she gets back from her hydrotherapy sessions to the point we have to separate them.  I've always thought it's got to have something to do with the smell of the pool on her

Ah, safe enough then if he has already had his 'boy op'!   :005:

They can still tie.

I would separate them.

Hope you're not walking her (on lead or not) where other dogs walk  :-\

She is getting lead walks but I go out at quiet times and walk in the quietest place possible, well away from anywhere that dogs could be off lead.

My cousin had an entire bitch and a neutered boy.  She was horrified when he actually "did the deed" as her poor girl was absolutely terrified and in obvious pain and distress.  He was having a fine old time, but she could have been seriously injured.  Luckily my cousin was there and managed to grab her - otherwise she could have just yanked herself away from him.  I would worry about things like that happening to be honest in case she got damaged trying to pull him out of her?
Hope it all works out.

Precisely.  Exactly why they shouldn't be able "to get on with it"  :-\

Interesting about the smell after the groomers, although Miss J doesnt need much of an excuse, she spends her first few walks after going to the groomers rolling in whatever she can  >:D

Well I guess scented products of most kinds would be alien to a dog's sense of how they think they should smell - I suppose it is not natural not to smell of nature's aromas.

I would be concerned too that Millie could get hurt, specially being so young  :'(
