Hi. I don't know much about cats and dogs, but it could be adolescence or is she coming into season, as that can affect their moods. It does sound like guarding of you. My two don't like the other having a cuddle and will guard so cuddles have to be done carefully! I have managed to get one to lie by my feet or in their bed to help reduce friction. Will she lie by you or stay in her bed? Maybe you could teach this first then make her do it when the cat wants attention. However, I was always told never to show any anxiety you might be feeling and brush it off as nothing much. Sometimes difficult!
I agree about the confusion of how to deal with growling. We're told not to ignore a growl or then told to put them out for bad behaviour. I'm never sure what to do!
