Breakfast
« on: July 27, 2016, 08:54:22 AM »
Hi,
Rosie is nearly 9 months and I think is turning into a pre teen, the last couple of days She has not really wanted breakfast.Because We still have poo issues, first one great, next one 'omg how do I pick THAT up' I have kept Her on 3 smaller meals a day .Yesterday put down normal kibble/ wet food mix, She looked at it and walked away.Didnt want to go for a walk on an empty tum so before We went out picked up food and replaced with just kibble which She ate.She ate as normal the rest of the day.So have decided kibble in the morning and She can eat it when Shes ready. Now I am ready for a walk, Rosie not eaten anything, do I take Her out , let Her eat when We get back and phase out lunch? She is definately a lot calmer now so presuming She may not need to eat so much, She is also very fussy/ spoilt so maybe a dose of ignoring, especially as the kibble on offer She loves, might be the thing to do.........

Henry went off his breakfast at exactly the same age. He gets his now at about 11am after our long walk. Fine to walk on an empty tum!

Seems a lot of us have the same problem this week! Humphrey's just had a small breakfast and its nearly 2pm!
I actually think they're often better being fed after a walk (in the wild, they'd have to hunt before they ate  ;)) for one thing, too much bounding around on a full stomach can cause problems and secondly, if they know they're going to get fed when they get back, it MIGHT, if you're lucky,  ;) encourage them to listen to you better, - (at least, so I'm told  :005:!!!).
I did a bit of reading up on this yesterday, and apparently it is quite normal in young dogs and can be caused by hormones but isn't anything to worry about. I still think the weather contributes to it aswell.

Henry has his tea anytime between 5:30 and 7pm depending on when he's going to get his evening walk.

HUmphrey always has it at 6.45 (don't ask me why, but he can evidently read the clock! ;)) but as he had a late breakfast, I'll leave it a bit later today and then hope we can agree that he'll have it at around 7-8 pm in future.
I know people who who deliberately avoid feeding at the same time every day but personally, I think they're better with some sort of routine but its individual preference really, probably doesn't matter that much!

Martha isn't very food obsessed (unusual for a spaniel) so she doesn't have fixed times and gets fed when we remember :005:
Not doing bad on it though, she now weighs 13.5 Kgs coming up to 6 months old  :luv:
