Just had a lovely walk in our local country park with Monty.  We met up with his sable cocker friend, Oscar and they were having the time of their life together    A man approached us and said he'd had cockers and hadn't realised how thick they were until he got his Jack Russell    Now, I can describe cockers as many things but thick isn't one of them.  Just wondering if he even got close to knowing and understanding his own dogs

No, it didn't spoil our walk but it amazes me that people come out with these things, especially as he had a stall selling items and he even said, "they're not going to buy anything cos I called their dogs thick"    Funnily enough, the things he was selling wasn't my cup of tea but it's like saying to him "that's a load of cr@p, I wouldn't give it houseroom"

My previous dog was a Jack Russell and I can honestly say that my cocker spaniel is a far more intelligent dog and one with more of an understanding his humans. The JR was a funny little dog but also not very pleasant to be around some days as he was very grumpy.

I am amazed that someone would approach you with such a ridiculous statement.

One of the best I've had said to me is "oh a Labrador comes half trained, whilst a cocker spaniel will die half trained."  Safe to say he got shot down- I find my boy a pleasure to train and all cockers seem to have great little characters.

The best one I had was: 'Oh, is that a cocker spaniel? Ha, ha, good luck with THAT.'  All while Henry was sitting really nicely by my side.

Our first dog was a Jack Russell, and I have to say he was very very smart. He would think for himself and was very independent. While a bigger dog was still thinking about doing something he had already worked it out and done it. He was cleverer than my five scotties, again very independent dogs. INthink the thing with Cockers is that they are more trainable than terriers, they want to,please whereas terriers don't necessarily, so it makes them seem less subservient and daft  . Just different breeds.

I was walking once with my five scotties on their leads, walking along nicely beside me, and a man passing with a child jerked her away, saying'don,t go near those scotties, they're vicious dogs'! Didn't know me from Adam, or my lovely nice terriers

Its just so ridiculous! They're not all clones with identical intelligence levels! But when you see how much prejudice that exists within the human species, is it any wonder that our dogs have to suffer from it aswell!........

I have heard this quote before and have to say in my case I agree, but I believe that my girl has more character and looks for fun / excitement in different places

Well how very dare he!! Mind you, I suspect his cockers may have been related to my first cocker, Sherwood. He had the IQ of a peanut!  Archie on the other hand is a member of MENSA.

It never ceases to amaze me how rude some people are! 
Since being poorly, I have often taken the dogs for a quick run round the block using Trev's mobility scooter.  So I have Suki walking sedately on the outside, Alfie next to her and Dexter next to me - all 3 walking perfectly next to the scooter.  The number of people who have said "You have got your hands full there love!"

Yes, my hands are full of loose leads whilst my 3 dogs walk perfectly beside me!  It just winds me up.  I am not saying my dogs are perfect all the time, but when walking next to the mobility scooter they know that they have to behave and they do.

Our son works in a local well known DIY store and he is really shocked at the personal comments customers make to him - and he tells me it is usually the "older generation"!
What gives people the right to make personal comments to complete strangers?  He has been told he is far too pale (he is fair skinned) and looks ill (not helpful to tell someone who suffers with their body image).  He has been told off for having his ear pierced!  He has been sworn at because the customer didn't read the small print on the company paperwork and was not actually entitled to a discount on a particular item on that particular day.

Right, will step off my soap box now!    (and my cockers were NOT stupid either! LOL)
