Hi everyone. Thank you all so much for the lovely wishes, I have to ask that you please continue to keep her in your hearts today. I just got home from taking her for her check up at the vets to be told that as she's got to go under for another operation this morning.

Apparently the infection isn't the problem now, as she's developed a hernia in the wound site and she has to be opened up again to have it fixed and they can't be sure if internal organs are involved or what until they go in. They think the infection may have worn away the flesh around the stitches and that's caused things to get worse. I was told so much information about what is and what could be, I don't think I took it all in as I'm in a state of shock. I'm absolutely devastated that she has to go through ANOTHER operation to fix her. Poor little mite has been through so much already and I'm scared to death of her going under another general anesthesia, and how things will pan out with her recovery. She'd got back to being her old self this last couple of days too, being very vocal and greedy, and now this has happened, I'm absolutely gutted for her.

Please say a prayer for her today, I'm so scared and hoping with all I am that she can recovery from yet another surgery and get back to being a healthy dog again.

Hope she gets well soon - was going to suggest that if the infection had still been appearent them probably worth swabbing it for cultures - we had to do this recently with something that was resistant and worth thinkin for the future when they have a persistent infection

Thinking of you and Lilli.
She's been so strong and recovered so well.  I'm sure she'll be strong enough to recover from her latest op.

Hey all!

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for everyone for their lovely wishes. Lili came through the surgery okay, but we're nowhere close to being out of the woods. It was around 48 hours post the original op when the signs of infection set in, so I guess you could say we're in the danger zone now.

We've just been for a check-up and the vet who operated yesterday told me that when they opened her up they found that all the stitches in the muscle wall were intact, so it seemed that they had just come through the muscle itself.  :-\ They're not sure if that was because of the extent of the infection that weakened the muscle holding the stitches OR if it was because of a reaction to the stitches themselves.

The vet said that there's no much room for alteration on what sutures they use so it could happen again if it was a reaction, and obviously that'll mean another surgery, so I'm terrified of what might happen over the coming days. Poor little mite has been through more than enough already, she deserves to catch that full recovery already.

Anyway, I thought you all might like to see a little snap of her from this morning. (Excuse the big blue collar, we had to find an alternative to the cone ones, because she wouldn't even lie down in those!)

Luckily she seems no worse for wear after the surgery and she's eating/drinking okay and almost back to normal with being a little bossy boots. I'm a bit concerned about her toileting as each operation seems to upset that a bit more and we'd only just got back to rights after her spinal operation, but fingers crossed for no further problems in that department, or any other haha!

Once again, huge thank you to all you lovely people who replied with such kind wishes. I'm certain your energies help get us both through these dark times! Please keep her in your hearts in the coming days, as it'll be a while yet before we know if she's beaten this or if we're headed back to square one.
