Hello,
Our 10 month old show cockers is bright ans easy to train . Our problem is that she whines when in the car which can be very distrcting o the drivers. I have tried using a lick mat to distract her with limited success. Have you any other suggestions, please?

Sorry there are no answers....my boy is 2 and he is very vocal :005: but a sharp call of his  name and no controls it.

Has she always had problems in the car...or is it new.  My previous boy would react if both myself and hubby exited the car but if it was just me and I left the car he would curl up and sleep.

Is there something she is really fond of - a favourite toy or treats, if so maybe that might help.

My Harry loves a Yaker bar   https://www.petsathome.com/product/yakers-original-dog-chew-and-occupier-medium/7128083P?productId=7128083&purchaseType=one-time&size=medium - it lasts him ages yet another members dog gets through them in 20 mins or less!

Maybe try her with one at home to see if she is occupied with it, before the car. (they are really hard)

I have one last thought....is she use to someome sitting in the back of car with her....these cockers are very strong characters and if she is and suddenly she is now on her own and crated as older she may well be attacking up.

Hope this gives you some ideas

Hi! Thank you for replying and for your advice. I ill try a Yagar bar and see if it helps. I have  tried singing which can help sometimes and she doesn't complain if I don't hit the right notes!

:005:  I must try singing - but leave it a while -there is too much rain without me singing!!!

Yaka come in three sizes and flavour like banana and strawberry, I just get the plain one and medium size.

Also when they get down in size you can pop in microwave and they puff up like crunchy bars.

Need to google time in microwave - only did it once and Harry left such a mess of crumbs I said never again.

Take care

:

Humphrey does his own singing and has developed quite a repetoire over the years ranging from  the little squeak when he decides its time for us to get up, to a mini „I‘m not really barking“ bark when he wants his tea, and then there’s his opera diva impersonation in the car (which usually abates once he knows we‘re not going anywhere exciting, I swear he does recognize the routes).
I never really worked out whether his car whining was excitement or protest but it did get better once we moved him to the back seat instead of in a box in  boot, he still grumbles a lot but I‘ve found ignoring him and turning up the radio usually produces a silent sulk after about 5 minutes. Return journey are curiously never a problem…. :shades:

Sorry not to be able to offer any concrete advice, but its just one aspect of cockership that still baffles me after 10 years!
