Teddy smells! How often to bathe him and which shampoo?
« on: March 13, 2006, 03:11:08 PM »
Teddy seems to always smell really strongly (not of anything in particular, just doggy).  Not as bad as when we got him - the lady at Jolleys said that was a kennel smell because he'd been kept in the police kennels with lots of dogs, I presume.  Anyway, I've had him three weeks and bathed him twice but he smells again.  He's not rolling in anything, he's not wee'd in the house since his last bath.  It's just a really strong doggy smell, I know they always smell a bit but none of my other dogs have smelt this strongly before - but I've always had bitches before, could that be the reason?

So how often can I bathe him and what shampoo do you all use?  I've got a small bottle of teatree shampoo, I think it's by Johnsons.
But I'll need to buy some more soon anyway, so will try something else.

I wonder if Spaniels have a smell of their own?

Vahri has stinky feet  ph34r

Ruffy has a distinctive smell, kinda like you're describing - it's a kind of sweaty smell, with a doggie edge.

I sometimes worry about the house - I'd hate to think it was smelly too.

I don't like bathing them too much, and to be honest, the clean smell only lasts about 3 days then scent of Rufters filters through.

There is a condition called seborrheoa (excessive secretion of sebum which collects on the coat) that some cockers can be prone to. I had one girl who was really smelly all the time. Every time she walked past a musty type odour would linger for about 5 mins.

The only answer I found was plenty of bathing.
