Thornit Ear Powder - Rumour?
« on: October 26, 2006, 12:49:48 PM »
I have decided to buy some Thornits Ear Powder for Sasha. I mentioned it in an email to our breeder and she said "Thornit's powder is fine but you'll need to buy several tubs as rumour has it it's going to be discontinued (some EEC crap!)".

Has anyone else heard this rumour?

I am also slightly confused, I also noticed that there is also a product labelled "Earclear", if you look at the links below and look at the bottles/web pages, is it the same as normal Thornits? Have they changed the name of it or is it different stuff? (The top link is the one from Jane.S's thread.

I want to buy some, but want to make sure i'm getting the right stuff (the price seems to vary between "Thornits" and "Earclear"), also i'm wondering if i need to buy a few bottles if the "rumour" is true?

Not heard any rumours either - I bought a bottle quite recently with no problems. The tubs being sold on Ebay look like they are from a rival supplier - the ingredients may be the same as Thornit or not. Bit naughty to use the word "Thornit" to sell their products but it seems to be common practice with some Ebay sellers (ie using the name of a well-known product in their own ads for a similar product). Champion Pets are the only one in your links selling the orginal Thornit - the other two are the same supplier selling their own version.

Could this be linked to the recently implemented EU Food Supplement Directive - which within the next 18 months will regulate the ingredients and strength of supplements and alternative therapies??

http://www.healthchoice.org.uk/consumer_action.aspx

Depending on what is in Thornit, it is quite possible that this draconian EU legislation will mean it will not longer be allowed to be sold - along with many of the day to day supplement sold in high streets stores  ::) ::)

Not sure about that - Thornit isn't a food supplement so don't think it would come under any directive aimed at vitamins & minerals. Might be the Medicines directive but I thought that related to medicinal products for human use?
