Nesting?
« on: December 11, 2006, 02:39:34 PM »
Over the last couple of weeks Saffie has been 'nesting' at night when she is getting ready to settle down for the night she will walk round and round her small plastic bed to make a little nest for herself in the fleece blankets she has in there. Is this normal as she has only just started to do it? If she wasnt spayed I would be thinking she might be in season or is this just something dogs do at night?

I think most dogs do this, just making it comfortable for themselves. even though it doesn't look to comfortable to me. I think it goes back to the wild dogs where they trod and squashed bracken down to make a cosy bed/den

Yup, Bonnie will go round and round in circles when she is in the living room until she eventually drops and feels comfy.

Max beats the heck out of his beanbag sometimes before he's happy enough to flop onto it - very funny & thankfully totally normal!!  :005: :luv: :005:

my mum has always maintained that she read somewhere that it's a natural instinct that comes from dogs in the wild circling and checking for snakes and other nasties before settling down to sleep. no idea if this is true, it always looks to me more like barkley is simply making his bed as comfy as possible, but certainly every dog i've know seems to do it. :)

Ruby does this, and on some of the armchairs she'll dig furiously before she settles
